Metro Prep and Laureate Day School restrooms are designed to be totally private for use by one person at a time. Staff will not enter a restroom while a student is inside. However, staff may enter the restroom in the event an emergency arises, and the student requires assistance or otherwise indicates fear, alarm, or dangerous behavior. Any such incident will be documented in an Incident Report and provided to the parent and referring school district as described in the school’s Incident Report policy.
Note: Metro Prep and Laureate Day School only accept students who have a history of being fully independent in toileting.
Personal hygiene will be discussed with a student only in private. Serious deficiencies will be dealt with via consultation with the parents and student, as appropriate. Correction will be via teaching positive self-concept, rather than through punishment. General hygiene issues may be addressed in social skills group or through classroom instruction, as deemed appropriate by staff.
